The Republican “Small Business” Fraud

• The Republican support for ‘small business’ is a bait-and-switch; allowing them to look like champions of the little guy against big government, when in fact they’re really just doing the bidding of the rich.

• The ‘small businesses’ they refer to are ‘pass-through’ business types like S-Corporations that merely pass through all the profits to the owners, who then report the profits on their personal returns. S-corps evade paying hundreds of millions this way.

• The only qualification making an S-corp a ‘small business’ is that it has less than 100 owners.

• Bechtel is the largest engineering firm in the world, with 49,000 employees, revenues of $31 billion a year, and yet it still calls itself a ‘small business.’
