• David Koch ran for VP in 1980 on a Libertarian platform of abolishing the FBI, CIA, SEC, DOE, FEC, USPS, EPA, FDA, FAA, DOT, OSHA, consumer product safety, public education, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, minimum wage, gun control, and all forms of taxation. They also called for privatization of the national highway system and all inland waterways. William F Buckley called their movement “Anarcho-Totalitarianism.”
• The Kochs’ platform received 1% of the vote. They realized that they had to influence “seemingly independent” academia in order to bend American governance the direction they wanted.
• They’ve poured over a hundred million dollars into ‘think tanks’, foundations, and astroturf groups to make it appear that their ideas have ‘independently’ percolated to the surface.
This right-wing, redneck stuff works for them. They see this as a way to get things done without getting dirty themselves.
